Odd ball unit STL&H 1001 began life as SW1200 MILW 2026 in 11/1954. It went on to become MILW 631, then MILW 706 until eventually becoming SOO 1211. In 1996 it was converted into a slug and numbered CP 1001 until being repainted and becoming STLH 1001 in 1998. In this June 2004 scene at Agincourt yard, 1001 still had another 8 years of life left in it before being retired in 2012. As much life as a slug can have in it that is.

It's a perfect evening at mile 30 of Halton Sub as hotshot intermodal 143 drops downgrade with CN 2426 and IC 6111 up front. Both of these units are now off the roster.

A trio of BCOL 4600s lead a short train of OSB boxcars from the LP mill in Fort St John toward Dawson Creek to be unloaded, then reloaded with the same material after a finishing process was applied. This was during one of several slide-film-relapses I went through and was shot on a medium format camera (note the unusual aspect ratio), even in 2010 it cost close to $2 every time that shutter button was pressed. But a matching set of BC Rails on a perfect November morning was worth it.

Despite it not officially being Winter yet, Winter is here. A hefty 20+cm of snow fell this past weekend in Regina and much of Saskatchewan. I wonder how many harsh winters the lead unit on this 602, KCSM 4657 has dealt with over the years?

Despite the thick ice-fog, a four-pack of SD40-2s leading a loaded grain train on the mainline is worth going out for. CP 9021, 9022, 9023, and 5875 do the honours of leading train E08 into Regina from the Last Mountain Elevator.

On my way home to Regina after a successful chase of 2816 from Moose Jaw to Dunmore, I stumbled upon this westbound leaving Swift Current. Needless to say that a little more chasing was in order. At 20:25 CP 7016 is seen on the approach to Antelope in some golden evening light. With just over 300km still to cover to get home, needless to say the next morning at work came all to soon. I regret nothing!

The first KCS unit to be repainted in CPKC colours, KCS 4805 is seen about to duck beneath a sided bridge just east of Mortlach SK. My thoughts on this new scheme (although completely irrelevant) would be to ditch the gold logo with the white background and just make the letters bigger. What are your thoughts ?

The Evraz steel mill at the north end of Regina Sk has a couple of true antiques in its small fleet of switchers. Case in point EMD NW2 #5 which started out as GN 156 in 1949. Seen here paused briefly between switching moves at Wheat City Metals, a scrap yard situated next to the main steel mill.
